Summer + Shane

Summer and I met when she came into the local coffee shop I was working for, and we hit it off right away. When I mentioned my photography business, she told me she was planning a backyard wedding with her fiancé, Shane, and wondered if I would be able to do the shoot. Intimate weddings on a realistic budget are my specialty, so of course I was thrilled! Summer said that the wedding was intended to be a surprise, but one of her six sisters couldn’t keep the secret, so all the guests ended up finding out ahead of time.

Even without the surprise factor, it turned out to be the perfect day. Family and friends gathered in the couple’s backyard, which they had converted into a tiny farm/coop that provides free eggs and produce for the local community. Summer did a great job styling the space, which made for a beautiful shoot—especially with the enhanced perspective of my wide-angle lens.

The backdrop for the ceremony was a custom greenhouse Summer and Shane had built with a bunch of windows. After they said their vows there, everyone had a great time feasting, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company.

The wedding was so laid-back and fun, and I’m glad I got to play a role in this kind and generous couple’s big day. May their sweet family and little farm continue to thrive!
